Disneyland can Parade Retired Floats to Storage

The colorful, intricate floats with twinkling lights dazzle and delight children of all ages at Disneyland, including the workers at Alex Moving & Storage. New this spring is Mickey's Soundsational Parade, which the Orange County movers are excited to take their kids to. Now the floats are joined by live musicians, dancers and of course your favorite Disney characters.

The Santa Ana movers can't wait to listen to the beats of the marching bands. It's That Time of Year Again!

Join Alex Moving and Storage in the month of giving. This December, Alex Moving will be hosting “Mano Amiga” to share a moment of joy and happiness this holiday season. Blankets, pantry items and more will be given out to those who attend. There will be food, drinks and entertainment for you and your family to enjoy in this afternoon of fun.

In the spirit of the holidays, blankets and pantry items will be given out, as well as other items. The entertainment will be provided by Yanga-Veracruz USA and will include a fun-filled afternoon of imitations, poetry, live music and much more! The event will take place at 1:00 P.M. December 17, 2011 at Alex Moving and Storage.

Also this holiday season, Orange County movers, Alex Moving and Storage will be “adopting a family.” They will be partnering with Assistance League to provide basic necessities for a poor migrant family. Its CARMAGEDDON!!

A large construction undertaking on the I-405 is scheduled to take place over July 16-17, which has been aptly nicknamed Carmageddon. The construction undertaking is part of the $1 Billion initiative to improve the I-405. This part entails the demolition of the Southside half of the Mulholland Bridge so that it can be rebuilt to the latest seismic standards, and wider, about 10 ft to add a lane for high occupancy vehicles. The nickname Carmageddon is rightfully fit because the Sepulveda Pass of the I-405 will be completely shut down for a 53 hour window. The closures will begin as early as 7 p.m. on Friday with ramps being closed, then about 10 p.m. the closure of freeway lanes will begin, and finally a complete shut down by midnight. The closure will continue till 5 a.m. on Monday morning with freeway lanes being opened up, and the ramps will reopen by 6 a.m. After the closure the reconstruction on the bridge will commence with expected 11 month duration. There will be one lane of traffic in each direction during the reconstruction.

The closure extends about 10 miles on the northbound closure between I-10 and U.S. 101. The Southbound will only be closed for about 4 miles, between U.S. 101 and Getty Center Drive. There are several regional freeways that can be used to completely bypass the Sepulveda Pass and they are: 5, 15, 23, 55, 57, 101, 118, 126, 210, 605, and 710 freeways. Check the Metro's website for addional routes. Sepulveda Blvd will be open for local only; all others are to use other regional freeways. Delays Sepulveda Blvd is an alt route for local resident access only and will not have the capacity to accommodate both local and diverted traffic. Traffic congestion is expected to be severe with lengthy delays (Multi-hour delays). Motorists, including truckers, and Orange County moving companies are asked to avoid the area if possible.

Recently while one of our drivers was out on a job, he was flagged down by a local Houston resident. Ms. Brandon was helping an elderly woman who could barely walk reattach a water hose to a spigot on the side of the house. This was more troublesome than expected. When she saw our drivers driving down the street; she ran out and flagged them down. Ms. Brandon explained what she was doing, and how difficult it was. Then she asked if they would kindly help them to reattach the hose. Damaso Suarez, gladly got out of the truck and helped reconnect the water hose to the house. The two women were very grateful for his help. Damaso, exemplifies the values of Alex Moving & Storage, which is that we care deeply about our community. New High Efficiency Street Lights!

According to www.newstreetlights.com, the City Council of Santa Ana, California has recently approved a recommendation that was submitted by the Department of Public Works to replace existing streetlights with new high efficiency street lights. The city currently uses high pressure sodium streetlights that consume approximately 240 watts of electricity. These will be replaced with high efficiency LED streetlights that only consume 140 watts of electricity. An award from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant is being used to fund this project so tax payers don’t have to worry about an increase in taxes. Many Santa Ana moving companies are thrilled about this as they sped a great deal of time on the road and will now have over 250 new bright LEDs to light their way!

Woman Arrested After Backing Car Into DMV

The irony here is off the charts. A woman was arrested this past Saturday night after she backed her car into the entrance of a Department of Motor Vehicles in Costa Mesa. Fortunately, the DMV was closed and there was no one inside when she decided to back her car up into the building as a way to enter the locked premises. The woman was not at the DMV for a driver’s test, instead, she was hoping to mail out a letter.

After breaking into the DMV, the woman, when confronted by the Sheriff’s Department bomb squad, refused to leave the building. Two hours later, the woman attempted to drive off in her car, ignoring police’s orders to stop. When she continued to resist officers, they opened one of her car’s doors and let in a police dog to knock, or bite, some sense into her. After all was said and done, no officers were hurt, but the woman was treated for a bite. No word on whether or not she ever got around to mailing that letter.

Reflecting on the Holidays – Helping Those In Need

As another holiday season has come and gone, Alex Moving & Storage would like to take time to reflect on the past year and what we’ve done to give back to our community. The week before Christmas, we held an event where our Orange County moving company handed out boxes of canned food, blankets and other products to the homeless and needy families. The Feeding the Homeless and Needy event took place on December 18^th, 2010 and drew more than 600 people. Our shuttles moved people back and forth from our warehouse, where our staff handed out 400+ moving boxes filled with canned food, pineapples, rice, beans and other staples as well as 250+ blankets.

The Foundation Yanga-Veracruz USA provided bilingual entertainment at the event in the form of songs, sketch comedy and skits. Overall, the Feeding the Homeless and Needy event was a complete success, and we are happy to give back to the Orange County community. We hope everyone had very Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year!

Recent statistics from the UCLA Anderson Forecast predict that the Orange County home sales volume will recuperate as much as 43% by 2012 and that the County will see $500,000+ median sales price for homes over the next two years as well. What does this mean for local and incoming residents? A huge housing market revival in Southern California and many more families moving to Orange County.

Melia Homes, a new homebuilding and development company, will be responsible for development two communities with more than 40 new homes, with a plan of building more than 150 homes annually throughout Orange County. Melia announced this development plan for Orange County and select areas of the Inland Empire this week that should begin previewing in April 2011. There will be entry-level and first-time single-family developments as well as luxury, estate-size residences to fit a variety of families’ budgets and lifestyles.
